This question is a pretty big deal because a blog affects your website in lots of ways. The questions should really be “Can you afford not to blog” by the end of the article you should know the answer to both questions!
Lets start by defining all the different areas that we are going to talk about:
- Google rank
- Changing internet
- Social networking
In a nutshell, Google wants to see good content on your website that engages visitors. In return it will rank your website higher. The blog by itself will not do this but combined with a good online marketing campaign it will be at the heart of it all.
So Google likes to see that websites change, it will come back to your website sooner and re-index your website which means that it will update its records and assign a new website rank to your website which is great because each time your website should get better and better. That is why a blog is so great, it gives you the ability to write some useful content and share it across the web from talking about new products through to giving professional advice to customers.
Your blog will also get shared across the internet which will form a set of targeted links going back to your website, this is very powerful because it not only increases traffic and of course sales, but Google tracks all this activity and uses it to form a better opinion of your website.
Google wants to see that your website has site authority, are you a good knowledge base? Are people regarding you as an authority in your given field?
As you can see a blog can raise your profile online, allow you to engage with customers like never before and get rewarded for it with increased search engine ranks. Google has used blogging to index websites in a more efficient way.
The internet has changed thanks to better search engine results, faster speeds and real time updates, this means that your customers are ready to engage with your business for example through blogging. You can see this when a Apple launch their products, an event showcases the launch and in real time companies blog what’s going on in the event so customers know exactly what’s happening in real time.
It goes further than that, people can then comment of what is written in the blog, people ask questions and engage with the website. This concept is seriously powerful from a marketing point of view. Your target audience can actually join in on any blog and ask questions or make a comment just because you have a blog!
I hope your convinced already because I have briefly talked about some pretty powerful stuff. From a marketing point of view blogging is an essential part of any businesses marketing campaigns. Why, because as we have discussed, a blog gets spread over the internet and then people start to talk about it and most importantly people bite into your brand by having a conversation about your blog.
Your brand is exposed in more ways than you can think too because as I mentioned earlier a blog will get shared across the internet, other websites and blogs might use it as a reference. Remember Google traces all of this so if your blog gets a mention in a very popular place your search engine rank is affected and your brand is exposes once again.
I could have shoe horned this topic into any of the headings above but it’s important so here goes. Social networking is regardless of your industry one of the most powerful forms of marketing, if you haven’t embraced this either then keep read my blog on this topic too (I’ll post a link here shortly to bookmark this page).
This is how it works, you write a blog and then post it onto a social networking site such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Linkedin, Instagram, Pinterest etc etc. Then it gets spread around with connections flying everything all across the globe at the click of a button.
It doesn’t stop there either, now that your blog is up there, people read it, then share it again and the better the blog, the more people share it.
I keep going back to this because its so powerful, remember that Google traces all this and sees that your blogs are getting a lots of interest on the web and people go to your website as a result. More people engage with your website as a result, more sales are generated from your website as a result.
